InsulTech received a significant mention in a major article, “Pump Sets Keep Arizona Highways Passable,” in the May, 2006 issue of Diesel Progress North American Edition (DPNA) Magazine. The article featured the elaborate underground pump system that Empire Power Systems, the Phoenix-based Caterpillar engine distributor, supplies to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to handle massive water run-off during the monsoon season. Account Manager Jim Lukas highlighted InsulTech when he described the exhaust system in place in each of the 66 stations in the Phoenix area.

“The exhaust system uses a Harco critical grade muffler that provides a 20 to 26db(A) reduction,” Lukas said, “and InsulTech thermal insulation that is used for personal protection, as well as to minimize exhaust pipe heat rejection in the building, while also providing some noise reduction in the building. ADOT simply puts the package in position and makes the necessary connections.”

Reliability is a major requirement for ADOT’s pumping stations. The stations, which have been operating for 12 years, are run monthly by ADOT crews to keep them operating for the 15 to 20 hours a year that they are actually in use.
